About The Project

Social Media Magazine is an informative content site providing news, reports, and analysis of all things related to social media.

The owner of the site approached us in late 2018, and asked us to help him increase the Domain Authority from 15 to above 30.

We studied and analysed the site, and came up with an Analysis Report.Even though the domain was quite aged (more than 3 years), and he had quite a few pieces of content, because of the above three main ‘villains’, his DA was not improving. We were able to raise the DA from 15 to 33 in less than 6 months.

The Problem

We studied and analysed the site, and came up with an Analysis Report. For us there were three main things that he needed to stop immediately-

  1. Seeding Bad Links:

He was seeding links of sites, which were less than five. Most of them were bad sites, which had terrible internal as well as external links. Placing bad links on your site will automatically result in loss of credibility in the eyes of Google.

  1. Using Spun Articles:

Words that come out of software are Google’s biggest enemies. Using such software is antithetical to running a content site. We asked him to immediately stop publishing such content pieces on his site.

  1. Plagiarised Content:

His content site was replete with plagiarised content. We even found some articles, which were more than 50%, plagiarised. We asked him to take a subscription from Copyscape and check all articles as part of controlling quality of content.

The Solution

We made the following suggestions and acted on it-

  1. Only Long Format (1000+ words articles):

Long format articles perform really well on Google. We asked him to maintain a word limit of a 1000 words for each content piece. This enables Google to rate your content as informative.

  1. Good quality external links (limited to 5):

While you will have to use your client’s links, there is always avenues open to have good quality external links on your article. We did the same and used external links from authority sites like LinkedIn, Quora, Wikipedia, and others.

  1. SEO Compatible Content (WordPress’ own ‘Readability’ and ‘Keyword’ Analysis):

All the articles that were published on Social Media Magazine had to get the ‘green’ signal go ahead from WordPress. This meant improving the readability and keyword analysis on the article.

  1. Social Sharing:

We created social media profiles of Social Media Magazine (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram) and posted using Buffer. This helped gain a larger audience and improved the exposure.

By following the above three points, we were able to raise the DA from 15 to 33 in less than 6 months.
